MACARONS!!!

I have no idea what this is until I found it and tasted it.

They also serve quite a variety of pastries dessert, pies, quiches, and fruit tarts. The Grandma’s recipe Apple Tart looks tempting!

Ri-sot-to

Isn’t this just like any other rice we eat? Apparently not… This little Arborio rice buggers have high starch content which absorbs flavors easily, which in-turn a very “yum-yum” food. But not many people can cook out the flavors easily… including me. Reluctant to try cooking this all the time I passed the pasta aisle in supermarket, I decided to just pick it up one day and attempt to cook it. And this is the result… Chicken, mushroom, and beans risotto.

It wasn’t too much of a creamy texture as I did not add cheese into this, nor too much of the “kicking” flavor because I have no white wine in stock. Just chicken stock to maintain its flavor. I say this is not a bad dish… I shall do it again! But you know what, it tastes a little like congee texture. Haha! Won’t work without this helpful ‘hand’ from the Super Food Ideas magazine, but with my own variation. There are many risotto recipes can be found here.

Eat up and away~~~

By the way… this is Italian!

Burger That Flips Sideways

with 2 comments

I sometimes wonder how long can a person keep his/ her blog alive and well? Being a sane human is already hard enough in this crazy world, what more to keep ‘entertaining’ people around the cyber-world. Okay I am just being dramatic so that people sympathizes this abandoned little ‘corner’. But I guess I will save the whining for some other time. =) By the way, I well thanks.

Random decision I’ve made today for what to have for dinner. This was at 5.20pm when I finally started driving home from work. Yes, I drove because of the horrible weather since yesterday… the gale force winds, the sudden heavy pours, the chills, the messy hair, etc., etc… back to dinner. This one place I always drive pass on the way to and from work. I’ve always noticed the popularity of this one shop that people always queuing for… just like those pizzerias. Nope not a pizza place, but a burger bar. Oh well, just thought I give it a go. It’s sitting in the middle of a row of shops, in between two bars/ coffee place. How bad can that be?

But honestly speaking I have never been a fan of burgers until that one day, with friends we went all the way to Guildford for a roadside burger – Alfred’s Kitchen. No more photos taken other than the below (thanks to Aditya), as that night I was cold and hungry and couldn’t wait to grab my food and munch all the way down my stomach. Well, I can agree with rest that this is one of the best in Perth! Also gave me a close to home feeling because it’s street side. Felt like we’re at a mamak stall.

Ok, back to my dinner… yes another burger. It’s called Flipside Burger Bar. I can’t really put Alfred’s and Flipside’s burgers side-by-side. Both are different – one being traditional (I don’t mean old), open/ street side with truckies as frequent customer; and the other being contemporary, indoor/ jazzed atmosphere with wine sippers and coffee lovers. But both are home-made to order with fresh ingredients and taste great! I guess I can choose to walk straight pass fast-food chains for burgers and swap with this big chunky stacks with the real deal.

They serve beef, chicken and vegetarian burgers. Oh guess what? They serve lean beef! And there’s option for a free range egg added too. Quick, tick the ‘low fat’ box! Now this is one healthy burger, my call. Tee hee! My burger pick is beef burger – Avocado & Bacon. Description? This is what the menu says: 150g prime beef, avocado, crispy bacon, salad, tomato relish & mayo. Their chips are tempting – it’s chunky fat!. I passed on chips today… maybe another day. Definitely going back for another bite!

The love for burger…

My Nyum Nyum~

Simple dinner for the day… something hearty easy to prepare and when you have left over rice. I have been craving for soup, and ‘not so coincidentally’ I have pumpkin in my fridge. Pumpkin soup…. AaaaaWwwaaayyy! Hehe… How to cook you say? Just think of mom’s/ grandma’s ABC style soup… a little this and that into the pot! Basically ’soupy’ ingredients you can find.. potatoes, onions, tomatoes, celery… and some chicken (drumsticks or breasts).

My theory? “Just dump all into the pot lah!” As for fried rice? Same theory… haha! Just give it a thought…

Country sausage + veg fried rice

Country sausage, veg fried rice + mini anchovies

Simple satisfaction. =)

Jacks’ Steak

with 2 comments

No, it’s not Jack Sparrow, but Outback Jacks. It’s a bar & grill restaurant Aussie style, quite newly opened (not sure how new) here in Fremantle. Had a night out with Carol and Lisa, we stumbled across this restaurant and got attracted with the smell from outside the restaurant, just when we couldn’t decide what’s for dinner.

Not a bad place for Aussies with their favor with steaks and BBQ. Since I have not had a good steak for a while… decided to pop in! First off… the wait was about 20mins! That’s a good business for them, but bad wait for us. FYI, it was a cold night. Carol went ahead with the waiting list, and we decided to have a short walk around before they can seat us.

Right back at the restaurant, Lisa and I took about 10mins later to realize there was a giant croc hanging down from the ceiling… just like the newspaper article below.

Freaky I say… giant croc, reminds me of ‘ahem’… BUAYA!!! I need a croc dundee! Hehehe… We got seated finally after about 30mins. But there’s another wait… wait for food, which was another half and hour. Good thing I had good companies and some got busy chatting away catching up with each other.

Finally, ‘royal entries’ for our steaks! Mine was a medium-rare T-bone steak.

It’s not that ’super huge’ portion… just that the platter is deceiving, especially with that amount of steak fries on it! The steaks didn’t quite turned out the way we expected them to be. My medium-rare steak wasn’t tender enough and tasted like medium to well done, whereas Carol’s and Lisa’s said theirs were like cooked through instead of just medium. Maybe it’s just the Aussie-way grills? Oh well… not a bad try, but I would expect it to be better.

But what counts at the end of the night is a good catching up dinner with some good friends. =)

Hmm… but I wonder how is it like to take in 1KG Rump Steak in 30mins? *gulp* There’s a challenge for anyone interested in gobbling it for in exchange for half price and free T-shirt. Meanwhile, I’m happy with my wee-bit portion, thanks!

My ratings: 3.5 out of 5.
